This website aims to present the history and genealogy of the
SIROIS-DUPLESSIS family. It focuses on the descendants of Francois
Sirois
dit Duplessis, an immigrant from France, who settled in Rivière Ouelle, in the
Kamouraska region of Québec sometime around the year 1700. It also contains
other ancestral lines for some of Francois' descendants.
Francois married twice and fathered at least thirteen children. In the late
1700's his descendants began to spread out from Kamouraska, primarily moving up
and down the southern shore of the St Lawrence River and southeast into the St
John River valley along the New Brunswick - Maine border.
Today most of his descendants to whom the family name has been passed on are
known as Sirois, a few are known as Searway, and
some King -- a partial translation of Sirois.
One branch of the family dropped the Sirois name and carry today
as their surname Duplessis or a variation of it, like Duplisea.
